What is Symprove?

Symprove is a completely new kind of probiotic food supplement. It's a barley drink which contains four varieties of naturally occurring live, activated probiotic bacteria.

The big difference with Symprove is that the probiotic bacteria in our drink are live and activated, and whilst there are some dairy products which contain single varieties of live bacteria, Symprove contains four times as many varieties, and is suitable for people who cannot eat yoghurt or milk based products.

Many probiotic sachets, capsules and tablets contain freeze-dried bacteria, the process of freeze-drying deactivates bacteria and can actually damage or kill many of these delicate microorganisms. Before they can do anything for you, those bacteria that survive the freeze-drying process must re-hydrate (absorb water) and gradually begin dividing again. This all has to happen in the hostile environment of the stomach which is a lot to ask.

Whilst we were developing Symprove we looked closely at the probiotic products already available and how we could create a product which delivers probiotic bacteria in a more natural and effective way. The result is a unique production process which creates the best environment possible for the probiotic bacteria so that when you drink Symprove you are creating the best possible chance for the probiotics to successfully reach your digestive system.

Why is Symprove different?

The probiotic bacteria in Symprove are grown on a pasteurised extract of barley which is carefully optimised to create the best possible environment for the four varieties of probiotic bacteria we use. This extract is then processed to produce a drink containing the four probiotics in their live, active state. The only things we add are Vitamin C, citrate and sorbate which are preservatives found in berries and other fruits.

Because the probiotic bacteria in Symprove are healthy and active when you drink the product they can get to work straight away, and because Symprove is a drink rather than a solid food, tablet or capsule, it does not trigger the same release of stomach acid as other products, which in turn makes life easier for the probiotic bacteria.

Is more better?

Many manufacturers claim that the most important aspect of a probiotic is how many bacteria are contained within it, the idea being the more the better.

At Symprove we believe that the condition of the bacteria is more important and by condition we mean viability, or how able the bacteria are to survive being swallowed and to divide and populate the digestive system.

Freeze-dried sachet probiotics can take several hours to begin multiplying after you swallow them, whereas the probiotics in Symprove begin dividing within the first twenty minutes after ingestion. In fact, a typical serving of Symprove can deliver more viable probiotic bacteria than the most concentrated freeze-dried product on the market.
